ITI Trades
Electrician – Power Distribution.
The
Electrician – Power Distribution course is a two-year trade program
offered at ITIs across the country. The course is divided into two areas:
- Domain area
This area
covers trade theory and practical, and imparts professional skills and
knowledge.
- Core area
This area
covers workshop calculation and science, engineering drawing, and employability
skills.
After
completing the course, students receive a National Trade Certificate (NTC) from
the DGT, which is recognized globally.
Some of
the skills and knowledge students gain through the course include:
- Handling tools
- Ensuring safety
- Interpreting electrical diagrams
- Troubleshooting electrical
systems
- Working on high or low tension
power lines
- Installing and repairing
overhead power lines
- Joining cables
- Replacing fuses and faulty
components
- Testing for electrical
continuity
After
completing the course, students can:
- Join the industry as a
technician and progress to senior technician, supervisor, or manager
Solar Technician (Electrical)
The
Directorate General of Training (DGT) offers a one-year Solar Technician
(Electrical) course at Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). The course
is part of the Craftsman Training Scheme (CTS), which is delivered nationwide
through a network of ITIs.
The course
covers the following areas:
- Domain area
Includes
trade theory and practical to provide professional skills and knowledge
- Core area
Includes
employability skills to provide core skills, knowledge, and life skills
The course
also includes:
- 150 hours of mandatory
on-the-job training (OJT) at a nearby industry
- Project work and extracurricular
activities to build confidence
After
completing the course, trainees receive a National Trade Certificate (NTC) from
the DGT, which is recognized worldwide.
Some
responsibilities of a solar energy technician include:
- Attaching panels to different
types of roofs
- Wiring panels to electrical
grids
- Performing bypass diode tests
- Measuring ground continuity,
impulse voltage, reverse current, and partial discharge
- Assisting in the installation
and commissioning of solar PV plants and hybrid plants
Computer Operator and Programming Assistant
(COPA)
The
Computer Operator and Programming Assistant (COPA) course at an Industrial
Training Institute (ITI) is a one-year vocational training program that
teaches students the basics of computers, hardware, software, and programming:
- Eligibility
To be
eligible for the course, you must have passed the 10th class or equivalent from
a recognized board or institute.
- Course content
The
course covers topics such as:
- Basic computer knowledge
- Data entry
- Using Microsoft Office
- DOS
- Internet uploading,
downloading, and surfing
- Career options
After
completing the course, you can pursue a career as a craftsman in industries, a
senior craftsman, a supervisor, or even a manager. You can also join the
Crafts Instructor Training Scheme (CITS) to become an instructor at ITI
colleges.
